Walking along the beach shore, we could see the ships on the horizon. The one on the right looked familiar. It had a distinctive yellow stripe on the front, and that in itself gave it away. It was the Holland America cruise ship Holland America Pride. We were very surprised that one would be at this particular port. On such a quiet island, the line doesn’t normally venture here. And we would learn later it was its maiden voyage. All this made for a fun sightseeing day.Wet and a little tattered, we set out in search of a place to spend the night.
The tiny windmill on the island serves as the only signal that the island is occupied. But, as I soon learned, the place is almost always deserted.
Normally we would have asked our in-laws to stay at their home, but we decided to camp on the island. Just as well, I would learn, as we had a great visit. When it was time for us to leave, we offered to take them on the rest of their journey.
