This weekend we went to the garden to gather tomatoes.
We had a ton of good-looking tomato plants but not one tomato.
The regular kids tried to dig around looking for them.
Mostly it was me and Mark and his dog. We tried to find any tomatoes ripe for picking. I told him that I thought it was something with the plants that were either barren or maybe his dog was trying to eat them.
He said, “yeah…he eats them too.”
“Oh well…tomatoes are supposed to be delicious.”
We were in the garden for hours and only found the usual small handful of green ones.
We didn’t give up. We couldn’t, I mean he said they would be so delicious.
A week later we finally found some ripe tomatoes. He couldn't be more thrilled!
Then he went to harvest with his dog by his side.
They both picked their prized tomatoes and each took a piece.
I had to intervene. I said, “Look Mark! You have to leave some for everyone.”
“Sure.” He laughed, “lets call it a square mile.”
There we were in the middle of the yard sitting in a square mile.
The kids and I laughed.
Mark saw it and laughed too.
